France, a nation in Europe, was relatively unaffected by the Rapture, as less than a percent of the population was taken up.* (This cannot be literally true, even in the Left Behind universe, since all children were raptured and children comprised more than one percent of France's population.) Before the Rapture, it used the mark (or Euro) as its currency. Upon the forming of the Global Community, France became one of the United European States.
In Attack on Petra, it is said that many landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, were destroyed in World War III, but in the Left Behind series, it is the United North American States, the United Great Britain States, and Egypt that suffered the brunt of the destruction. The Arc de Triomphe remained or was rebuilt with a statue of Carpathia on top of it.
In Kingdom Come, as of year 93 of the Millennial Kingdom, all of the familiar landmarks in Paris, such as the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Eiffel Tower, were destroyed, but there were attempts to reproduce them. France was a hotbed of The Other Light activity, often hosting parties with recreational drugs for prospective members. They also had brothels, night clubs, and black markets. The Other Light's activities were so pervasive that France had to reinstitute law enforcement agencies and jails.
